About Meerhay Manor
Meerhay Manor has stone floors and mullioned windows. Its exact age is unknown, but it was rebuilt in 1610. There are four acres of garden, featuring many exotic tree species, and 35 acres of rolling farmland surround the property. We have a number of animals including horses and ponies, dogs, and a flock of Portland sheep.
After running successful creative writing weekends we have decided to provide Stone Sculpturing weekends with resident stone sculptor Pete Price. For over 20 years, Master Carver, Pete Price has been creating works of art. With private and commercial commissions including carvings for the Alton Towers Hotels in Staffordshire, his work is showcased across the UK. Prominent displays of his art at the RHS shows in Hampton Court and Tatton Park have contributed to Pete's reputation.
The house is a family home and we hope to create an informal, friendly atmosphere for our writers to relax and enjoy a break from their everyday lives and think about their shared interest in writing. An opportunity to relax in the company of like minded people in the peace and quiet of rural Dorset. A chance to enjoy some good home cooking made from our home grown produce. We have a flock of rare breed Portland sheep and an extensive vegetable garden.
The small town of Beaminster is only a mile away and we are located just seven miles from the coast and the small harbour of West Bay (where Harbour Lights was filmed) The nearest BR station is Crewkerne approx two and a half hours from London Waterloo.
